With the manufacture to date of about nine thousand bottles of phytopharmaceuticals, Guantanamo recovers the production of Natural and Traditional Medicine (MNT), a program affected by the latest weather events.
Marbelis Arguelles Bauta, specialist in charge of this activity in the province, said that despite the limitations with the raw material, the supply of anti-cold syrups, skin creams and other lines made from natural herbs and honey returns to normal.
She said that the agreements with agriculture are met, although chamomile and passionflower are scarce, plants that are used to counteract the insomnia problems and the treatment of anxiety that can cause gastrointestinal diseases.
In the province there are 17 units and a mountain laboratory belonging to the Turquino Plan to produce natural remedies that are then sold in the network of 122 community pharmacies located in the ten municipalities and are also used in hospitals, polyclinics, clinics and other centers of health.
During the last years, Guantánamo has developed a program aimed at increasing the use of the so-called Green Medicine, together with the use of acupuncture, mud therapy and homeopathy, among other techniques of the Natural and Traditional Medicine.
