Members of the Meteoro Exercise 2018 join the Red Cross in Guantanamo

Red Cross in GuantanamoThere are many activities carried out voluntarily by the Guantanamo Red Cross in various sectors of society, with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering.

From that vision, they join the National Disaster Risk Reduction Week that takes place throughout the territory, highlights Wilfredo Piñeiro Luque, Head of Operations and Relief in the province, known by its acronym GEOS.

 

"This group consists of eleven men and one woman, although there are similar teams in the ten municipalities of the territory who are developing several initiatives on this week, for example we present an exhibition aimed at all audiences in which we show means of rescues in case of landslides and fires".

"We also have underwater and medical emergency equipments, among others that are used in case of extraordinary events"

To provide security to those who need protection and assistance is undoubtedly a reason for the GEOS members to prepare a theoretical and practical drilling exercise in the largest hospital center in Guantanamo.

 

They exercise without using stairs or elevators to take several patients on a stretcher or with bandage down from the fifth floor of that institution, as well as another group together with a team of firefighters that extinguish fires.

The Cuban Red Cross also provides emergency relief and survivor aid, instruction, psychological support, aquatic safety, the restore and maintain family links and International Humanitarian Law, it will be known during the Week National Disaster Risk Reduction that takes place in Guantanamo until next Sunday.

This non-governmental, non-profit organization, affiliated with the Cuban Association of the United Nations, also has the purpose of protecting life and making people respect during times of armed conflict and other emergency situations.
