The Cuban State Plan for the Confrontation of Climate Change shows significant progress in more than thirty Guantanamo organisms and entities at the end of 2018, as stated by Jesús Martín Pérez, delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in the territory, after evaluating the progress of the Tarea Vida Program in the province.
Drainage projects benefiting more than five hundred hectares with problems of this type for the cultivation of cocoa in Baracoa, the implementation of conservation measures and improvement of soils in 1,425 hectares in 29 production centers, are among the most significant advances of this plan in Guantanamo.
After presenting the initiatives for this year, which include in the Tarea Vida Program to the ten municipalities of the territory, the Provincial Delegation of Agriculture, the Environmental Services Unit, the Business Unit of the Research Base and Hydraulic Projects were recognized for significant results during 2018 in the confrontation to climate change.
Emilio Matos Mosqueda, President of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, emphasized that in 2019 the entities should enhance the running of working groups as well as specifies the studies of danger, vulnerability and risk for disaster reduction.
For his part, Rafael Pérez Fernández, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Guantanamo, highlighted the commitment of Cubans to the early vision of the eternal Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz when he expressed at the Earth Summit of Rio de Janeiro, on June 12, 1992 his concern for the survival of man and called the union in order to mitigate and adapt to the already visible environmental variations.
