With tranquility, discipline and organization, the constitutional referendum was held on February 24, a historic day in which the Guantanamo people ratified their patriotism and support for the socialist social project for a better future for all Cubans.
According to preliminary report 85 percent of the population exercised the right to vote at 2 244 poll stations of the province, although still the authorities are busy in the computation of the statistics and in the appraisal of the quality of the vote.
Tomás Sourt Martínez, president of the Provincial Electoral Commission, stressed that all the polls operated satisfactorily with the guarantee of resources, transportation and communications even in the most remote towns of the Guantanamo geography.
In the case of the most difficult-access areas where there’s no access to fixed or cellular telephony, the information was transmitted through other means, among which the work of radio amateurs stood out, who maintained the flow of communication.
The voters in the territory showed the democratic character of this political process in Cuba, by attending to the polls to exercise the vote in a conscious manner, aware of the importance of the new Magna Carta that will lead the destiny of the nation.
