The deficit of pesticides, insecticides and chemical fertilizers, among other supplies needed for agricultural work, is one of the obstacles faced by Guantanamo agricultural producers in the first months of 2019.
Oscar Leyva Pompa, director of the Agricultural Supplies Company in the province, explained that until now, only chemicals are distributed to support 22 percent of the demand and priority is given to crops in the main productive gardens.
In this order, the Ministry of Agriculture in Guantanamo promotes the use of biological fertilizers as an alternative to combat pests and diseases, which is complemented by training for the integrated management of plantations.
The director of the Agricultural Supply Company in Guantanamo, Oscar Leyva Pompa, said that highly-demanded supplies such as machetes, files, shoes and work clothes remain in the shopping centers of the entity.
However, at the moment there is no circulation of barbed wire, clamps, electrodes, tires, batteries and other goods that depend on imports or raw materials from abroad.
