Of the more than 6,000 homes demolished by Hurricane Matthew, mainly in the Baracoa and Maisí municipalities, to date some 2,200 homes have been completed thanks to an extensive construction process with the support of state companies and the own effort of residents.
The radio program has the word housing officials and the government highlighted the contribution of the 43 small-industries of the territory, which take advantage of local resources to produce wall elements, ceiling, marquetry, and must produce what is necessary to raise a house to the day.
Norges Rodríguez Delgado, vice president of the administration body in Baracoa, explained that more than 1,900 of the grants in the recovery process were delivered in that territory to the residents most affected by Hurricane Matthew.
For his part, Rafael Perez Fernandez, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, insisted that investors and inspectors should ensure the accuracy and quality of the works, the legalization of the constructions finished, in general, look for alternatives such as adapting premises that allow supplying more homes with fewer resources.
At present, according to government data, in Guantanamo there are about 5,000 homes to recover, as a result of several weather events, including the aforementioned Matthew, which in October 2016 caused damages to more than 42,000 homes in five municipalities.
