Guantanamo train stationThe Oriente Railway Company in Guantanamo is working on the project of a new series of investments to improve the comfort of travelers and increase the safety of the new Chinese-made train that must cover the section to Havana, as of this month.

Pedro Durruty Martínez, deputy director of that company, explained that work is being done on the project to recover the platform of Havana, a construction that is now in disuse, allowing travelers to leave the station, go through a corridor of a few meters and board the train.

To achieve this purpose, in addition to work in the civil part of the station, it will be necessary to re-establish the railway line that existed before the 1980s and allow the new Guantanamo-Havana train to enter the station almost completely, for greater security of the wagons.

It is also proposed to encircle the section of track around Moncada Street, to avoid the passing of persons from outside inside the train while it is loading and unloading passengers, and to open a level crossing on Serafín Sánchez Street as an alternative to vehicle traffic.

Finally the manager of the Railway in Guantanamo explained that new investments are in line with the country's railway development plans, which foresee actions for the improvement of national transportation with actions such as the purchase of the aforementioned Chinese train, and the recovery of the routes local.
