The task was planned to finish on July 31, but the builders decided to finish early avoiding complications with the coming of the rainy season.
To that end, they not infrequently extended working hours for more than 12 hours a day, renounced some holidays and from late April a second brigade that works in the ground movement joined to the task – although it comes from Santiago de Cuba, belong to the Guantanamo base unit.
This latter group works on the stretch Jamal-Veguita Prieta site where it should come up with the brigade of Guantanamo that started work in Cantillo, according to Andrés Noa Rubio, head of production technical group.
This road of national interest begins in Jamal and passes through the communities of Alegría, Mosquitero, Capiro, Picoteo, Veguita Prieta, Yumurí, Guajimero and La Tinta, until reaching Cantillo, which is surrounded by coconut, cocoa, coffee plantations, forest, and crops such as bananas, yams and taro Xanthosoma.
The main road that links the cities of Baracoa and Maisi until the early 80s of the last century (when it was paved with hydraulic concrete which winds along the north coast, passing the imposing hill of La Boruga, reaching La Máquina), this road has four small bridges and about 30 works of art, expression of its steep topography.
