The union membership of self-employed workers increases gradually in Guantanamo, so this process continues as a priority for the Cuban Worker Federation (CTC), recognizing the importance of this force in updating the country's economic model.
This was recognized by Elio Frómeta Herrera, union leader of the CTC in the province, who said that to date about 2,937 are not enrolled, while the largest number of members belong to Transportation, Construction and Agriculture.
Of the 15,717 self-employed workers in the territory, there are more than nine thousand without any relation to state establishments and among these a figure greater than seventy percent it has been possible to affiliate.
The CTC has among its priorities to address the proposals of the self-employed and in the case of the members, the union activities and meetings constitute the scene to express their concerns and demand actions that further raise their legal culture.
The membership process of those who work in the non-state sector starts from the principle of voluntariness, and in Guantanamo, the CTC provides these workers information about their duties and rights, with a great union role accordingly the demands of that force with growing influence on the socio-economic life of the province and the country.
