Guantanamo soilThe specialists of the Guantánamo Soil Science and Technology Unit work in the fields of research and services, tasks that enable sustainable land management in favor of better productions.

This senior scientific personnel studies the chemical and physical composition of this natural resource, its geological and origin factors in each area in order to know the conditions for certain crops, Marianela Cintra Arencibia, director of this center, explained

 The agrochemical work is essential for the Guantanamo Soil Unit, in which the laboratory where the analysis of surfaces, water and plants are involved, whose results the technical services team makes recommendations for the use of organic fertilizers such as earthworm humus and compost.

Another objective of this center belonging to the National Soil Institute is the handmade production of biofertilizers for sale at affordable prices, in national currency, which nourish the cultivation areas and benefit the plants.

Based on the research carried out by the Guantanamo Soils Science and Technology Unit, its specialists indicate the application of actions to improve the land and contribute to sustainable agriculture, one of the country's priorities in favor of achieving food security without affecting the environment.
