With a relevant work regarding environmental education and the second mayor forest patrimony in the country, higher to the 44 percent of the territory´s surface, Guantanamo reaches June 5, World Environment Day, to be celebrated in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur by their achievements in that task.
The province´s results are notorious in the Toa Hydrographic Basin with forest coverage of over the 92 percent, a parameter showing the progress of the province with an annual growth of 0, 7 percent in forests cultivation.
The environmental management is also outstanding in the soil improvement and conservation in weak and relevant zones like the southern coast, the hydrographic basins, as well as 20 existing protected areas, said Guillermo Lemes Mojena, director of the Environment Department in the local branch of the Ministry of sciences.
In Guantanamo there are eight new ecologic pulping plants and the work of the treatment system of the Argeo Martinez Sugarcane mill concluded.
With a wide natural wealth, Guantanamo has emblematic sites like Alejandro de Humboldt National Park and a Biologic Corridor for migratory birds requiring intense work and dedication by scientists and people in general, for the good of environment for which worldwide actions are performed every June 5.
