Monitoring of atmospheric conditions around the clock by specialists of the Provincial Department of Forecasts and strengthening the work of the Civil Defense are the fundamental actions in Guantanamo to face possible weather events during the hurricane season, which is expected to be less active than before.

For this purpose the experts use the information on weather variables that the National Institute of Meteorology, the five stations of the territory and the specialized radar provide to make highly-effective- reports.

As part of the intensified efforts recently carried out by nationwide exercise Meteoro 2015 aimed at strengthening the development of the administrative and management bodies, and the people in general to prevent human and material losses in case of natural disasters.

Guantanamo residents began the hurricane season pruning trees, cleaning sewage system, as well as the location of residents in low-lying areas near rivers or coasts to minimize possible effects of tropical storms and hurricanes.

On June 1st, hurricane season in the Caribbean began and will run until November 30. Despite the expected low activity of hurricanes, Cuba is not completely free from the peril of any storm, so Cubans must be prepared for any event; hence the easternmost province of Cuba is also ready to face any weather event.
