The thirty-ninth issue of the Political Song Festival, a unique project in the country is held in Guantanamo from August 1st to 4, as a tribute to the martyrs Fabio Rosel, Julio Enrique Rodriguez, Gustavo Fraga, alberto Cusa and Jose Alberto Martin.

It is scheduled the participation of nearly 50 artists from all over Cuba, including songwriters Ariel Barreiro, from the province of Cienfuegos, Marcos Daniel Escalona, from Isla de la Juventud, Yasser Rodriguez, Santa Clara, David Ramon, coming from Santiago de Cuba, and the presence of the well known Raul Torres is expected.
The evening will be dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the House of the Americas´ Magazine, a publication that has always defended and promoted the values of the Nueva Trova Movement, and the Frontera group, precursor of the movement of troubadours in the province of Guantanamo.
According to Eldis Baratute, president of the Saiz Brothers Association, is a priority to keep the existence of this event besides promoting an approach to new generation with the history of the territory, it also promotes the work of troubadours and poets, whether or not the are members of the Organization.
Among the most significant activities of the event the artists´ pilgrimage to the obelisk erected to the Guantanamo martyrs, music jams and poetry readings in neighborhoods and workplaces, as well as the closing concert by Raul Torres in the Guaso Theater on August 4.
Writer Baratute also said that this year the festival extends its actions to the municipality of Caimanera, bordering territory with the US naval base and where many young people live with artistic or literary concerns. Likewise, we reissue the longest trova with the guest musicians and everyone who wants to join the attractive moment."
"It´s worth saying that the conference to be given by the Vice President of Casa de las Americas, Maria Elena Vinueza, entitled “Del Encuentro de la Canción Protesta y un nuevo modo de cantar la historia” (From the encounter with the Protest Song and a new way of singing to history", on Monday, August 3 at 3 pm.
The Portico Gallery of the House of the Young Creator will display a poster exhibition of Casa de las Americas and it is expected the sale of the magazine and other books promoting emblematic institution.
