Until August 25, an exhibition of cartoons of artists Orlando Piedra, from the Guantanamo municipality of Baracoa, and Ramses Morales, of Trinidad, will be exposed in the East Gippsland Art Gallery of Bairnsdale Victoria, Australia, where it was inaugurated on July 31.

The exhibition, under the name Cartoons from Cuba, is composed of 80 pieces -40 for each author- who deal with social, ideological and environmental issues, as well as politicians, taking a critical eye.

According to the local press, the exhibition has achieved a great success among the public of Victoria, who also attended three lectures on the art and life in Cuba given by the American Mary Ann Olding in that same gallery.

The collection of cartoons resulted of a visit to the island last year of two residents of Victoria, Peter Millard and artist Linden Dean, when met the creators, after which they promoted the cultural encounter through two international unions and Australian entities that support the arts.

Piedra, who could not travel to Australia due to visa refusal, explained through Olding that "living in the farthest city of the capital of my country, without modern communication technology. I have not traveled to other lands, but with the history, landscape and my people that I reflect on my pieces, while not far from universal, I bring a touch of Cuban identity."

The Baracoa artist has a long history in making cartoons, particularly aimed at local media, while Ramses, a professional cartoonist, has published in Cuban and international media, including the French newspaper Le Monde, following the murder of one of his friends in the tragedy of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
