How to celebrate our 93thd anniversary of the Cuban Radio? I propose this interview with a representative of the middle generation of radio directors of the three honored in CMKS Radio Station.
In early 2015 the Cuban Radio recognized in the category of Artist of Merit and also bestowed with the Micrófono de la Radio Distinction; while in her native Guantanamo she received the Guamo Honorary Award of the UNEAC, different ways of recognizing her talent showed during 33 years in the Provincial CMKS Radio Station, a family that appreciated those professional contributions.
One moment, Elba Hortensia Gonzalez Mestre, smile to take a photo of you. How and under what circumstances did you get to the radio?
I came to CMKS on December 2, 1982, not because it was one of my aspirations, but because I was placed here to accomplish my social service, after majored History from the University of Oriente.
Who directed the radio station at that time?
At that moment Hiram Fidel Bosch Sánchez directed CMKS and CMDX in Baracoa who remained longer in that position and I always considered him as a father because he was demanding and educated. Next up was Germán Núñez Garriga, of innovative ideas, that were transmitted and implemented on the radio and then he directed the rising Solvisión Television Channel.
A brief comment on your beginnings as a worker..
The first was my immediate connection to the other workers, although suddenly I was involved with the magical world of sound, microphones, sealed studies, strict schedules. Also the way the station took advantage of fresh knowledge of its few university graduates, the confidence that was placed in us and my admission into Hermanos Saiz Brigade, whose section of Film, Radio and Television still exists in CMKS, so I had the privilege of participating with other members of the territory at the national meeting of the organization called for setting up the Hermanos Saiz Association (AHS) with the presence of Esther Montes de Oca and Luis Saiz, the parents of the two young martyrs.
Which radio programs are you currently directing?
From Monday through Friday until eleven at night live-varied program “Desde Aquí”, that confront very critical listeners, but they just to appreciate what we do. Thanks to such programs I integrate the network of changüiseros of Guantanamo by means of the gathering Santiago Moreaux Jardines, every Monday with direct presence of public and musicians in studios. Also, I direct the cultural program “Identidad” on Sunday morning
Most significant provincial and national awards ...
Most I have obtained as a radio-script consultant, for example with "Cumpleaños" program, at AHS event in Las Tunas, fourth nationally with Universo Científico, National Award with a historical program on the " 24 de Febrero Upraising," Second Place of National Propaganda, National Mention in "Somos la flor," the Best Director with “El Bici volador,” Grand National Prize in the category Encuentro con el Maestro with “La bailarina Española (The Spanish dancer). I could mention many other awards.
You have a good mood ....
Wherever I am, people laugh ... my teammate also enjoy with my presence, especially in the program “Desde Aquí” ... I am a one hundred percent Guantanamo woman.
¿Challenges?
I have a silent commitment to my late grandfather Justo Gonzalez Sotolongo, one of the protagonists of the peasant struggles of Realengo 18. I want to write his testimony and that of others who participated in so brave page of history.
Not a single pose she showed while taking photos during the dialogue ... she knows the power of words on the radio ... for the resonances also seen. If CMKS Radio Station could have her, would have her twice: with her present maturity and as my eyes saw her in 1982 with her dark hair, giving the freshness of a tropical Snow White, revolutionizing and committed to life.
