Only 30 big figures in the history of Judo have reached that merit. That detail speaks for itself about how difficult it is to be included in the elite group, of which Saturday Cuban Driulis Gonzalez became part, Granma newspaper reported.
Four-time Olympic medalist (1992-bronze, 1996-gold, 2000-silver, 2004-bronze) and three-time world champion (1995, 1999 and 2007), Gonzalez joined the Cuban team for 20 years, in which she became an example for her teammates and a standard of discipline worldwide.
Gonzalez gained respect in competitive platform and such efforts are worthy for her to be the only Latin American woman in the Hall of Fame, and the second Cuban representative, after exaltation of Hector Rodriguez two years ago.
One of the most rewarding moments ar an athlete is the recognition of so much. And so it happened on the night of August 22. "But I will ever be the same, only a little more excited," she said to reporter Joel Garcia after the ceremony at the Alau Ice Palace, in Astana, Kazakhstan, where the World Championship will be held.
