One hundred students with different physical or intellectual disabilities in Guantanamo turn their homes in schools, thanks to the more than 30 itinerant teachers available in the eastern territory, said Roberto Soler Fernandez provincial methodologist of special education.
He said that in each child´s house with special educational needs pertaining to the ten municipalities of the province, these teachers teach classes of Spanish, Mathematics and History of Cuba and other subjects that allow their cognitive development.
These itinerant teachers are part of the more than 750 educators to guarantee special education in Guantanamo, where over two thousand students with mental retardation, psychic development retardation, deafness and hearing loss, speech disorders and other physical and motor limitations.
This 2015-2016 school year, 21 centers of special education work in the territory, which also have multidisciplinary teams of specialists, speech therapists, physical therapists and educators to ensure quality in the learning process, a profession that requires greater commitment and dedication.
