It was told by Gaspar Perez Sotolongo, the provincial director of sports during an interview with the local press.
Of the success during the first eight months of 2015, the director said: “ it's essential that we succeeded in the last Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, where our athletes returned home with six gold medals, three silver and five bronze, a sign of strength, courage and discipline with which our athletes were prepared."
He also said that it is essential for the country's easternmost province to have a solid basis for next Olympic Games, and to win out in the main international events.
Guantanamo sports official explained that in the territory there is a significant group of young athletes with potencial: "Boxing enjoys good health, we are ranked in the top three places in each category and major events, such as Playa Giron Tournament, National Series in the elderly, in addition to the school and youth games."
In this regard, within the investment, the provincial Boxing Academy was renovated; boxing has priority throughout its historical performance from 
Central American and Caribbean Games, Pan American Games, World Championships and now the World Series.
“The renovation of the academy is not limited to one year, in the coming days we will work on the first four cubicles, which will have air-conditioning, hydraulic system was repaired and has a comfort with the requirement that preparation for each competition needs,” Perez added.
The sports director in Guantanamo referred to other results and goals: “As for the School of Sport Initiation School (EIDE) Rafael Freyre Torres, with about seven years being built, the investment is to 91 percent, blocks number three and four for the boarding house and teaching campus, are nearing completion, we hope that next year will work in the gym valued at five million pesos, because it includes the 16 sports facilities that are around.”
"Likewise, we are also working on improving the methodological work in the selection of the technical workforce and the best coaches to be in sports centers.
About the national sports he said: "There is much talk about baseball and all want to obtain a good place in the National Series, because the fans demands so and when the results are good, it is an incentive for other sports, the team started well the first Subseries, wiping out Holguin in the Van Troi, there were not many hits, just 10 in the second game, the offensive and pitching should improve to aspire to be among the top eight for the postseason.
Perez Sotolongo concluded “Guantanamo sports have the potential to maintain the historical performance and move forward fully.”
