With a faculty of about 500 professors, more than half of them specialists in second grade, 278 in the category of assistant and associate, and eight holding a doctorate degree, the University of Medical Sciences has the conditions to be accredited with good results, says Dean Yadira Ruiz Juan.
The evaluation committee that includes methodologists of the Ministry of Public Health inquires about the social relevance and impact of the university on the territory as a generator of effective scientific solutions according to assistance needs of the population and competence of more than 4439 students from first to sixth year.
This comprehensive evaluation will also strengthen the student curricula and pre-vocational practice in hospitals and polyclinics to achieve better academic results in the nearly 980 university students to be graduated this year in the careers of Doctor of Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology and Health Technology and Nursing.
The accreditation of the University of Medical Sciences Guantanamo is preceded by Center of Excellence' Status which aims over the next five years, a projection to gain international recognition and equivalence of studies and degrees formed in this eastern territory.
