In the last two and a half months precipitations have been recorded in the Valley and adjacent areas, which allowed restart the transfer of water from the Sabanalamar River to the Pozo Azul dam, which accumulates more than 2 million cubic meters, of which about 1.2 million are guaranteed to agriculture.
In a meeting with producers, Denny Legrá Azahares, the First Secretary of the Communist Party in the province, called them to take advantage of favorable weather conditions and the reinstatement of irrigation to ensure the harvest foreseen.
He thought that for planting more than 585 hectares in 70 days it is essential to work Saturdays and Sundays, a criterion supported by the governing body of Agriculture and producers of this renowned place.
Egueny Rodríguez Martínez, head of crops at the Farming Enterprise in San Antonio del Sur stated that the sowing time of tomatoes initiated by the Cooperative of Credits and Services “Filiberto Rodriguez,” will plant most of field with Botijón variety and a minority with JM 28 and Vita varieties.
