La Fama, symbol of the city of Guantánamo, was awarded on Wednesday afternoon to the prestigious Brazilian theologian Frei Betto, a close friend of Cuba and Fidel Castro, during his first visit to this eastern territory and in the context of the Celebrations for the 30 anniversary of the Cuban Martin Luther King Memorial Center (CMLK).
More than 50 medals won in the competitions of knowledge in the prioritized subjects as well as the prizes obtained in the national competitions Sabe Más Quién Lee Más (Know More Who Read More), Leer a Martí (Read to Martí) and other recognitions at country level, are among the achievements that the affiliates of the union of Education, Science and Sport (SNTECD) in Guantánamo, will show next May 1st.
On April 26, the President of the Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples (MovPaz), Silvio Platero, reiterated in Havana that the U.S. Naval Base in Guantánamo is the only one in the world which exists against the will of the people and government of the land on which it is located.
This year’s May Day march in the Cuban capital will be led by 50,000 youths who will march “For Fidel, for Raúl, for the historic leadership of the Revolution, and for the youths that gave their lives during the process, for our combatants and for the history of Cuba,” according to Susely Morfa González, a member of the Council of State and first secretary of the Young Communist League (UJC) National Committee, speaking on April 25.
