The Pope highlighted on Monday the efforts of Colombia for ending the military confrontation during the traditional speech to the accredited ambassadors to the Holy See.
In his Christmas speech, Pope Francis also sent a message of encouragement to Colombia.
Since 2012 the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army (FARC-EP) are conducting dialogues in Cuba in order to reach an agreed solution to the conflagration, which has caused the death of about 300.000 citizens for more than half a century.
Depending on the progress of the discussions and in correspondence with the commitments made by both sides, these talks could end this year, with a peace agreement.
The meetings of the two delegations will be resumed next January 13 in Havana with the challenge of reaching consensus on issues of bilateral and definitive ceasefire, surrender of weapons, demobilization and reintegration into society of the fighters.
Before the end of 2015, the top leader of the also insurgent National Liberation Army, Nicolas Rodriguez, confirmed that was already agreed a comprehensive agenda to start formal talks with the government, in a conciliation space similar to the one established with the FARC-EP.
