The celebration of the 4th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will allow to continue consolidating the bloc as a mechanism of political consultation and integration, said today Cuba´s Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno.

The objectives of the meeting are to approve a political declaration, an action plan for 2016 and more than twenty special resolutions on specific topics.

These resolutions include the condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States to Cuba, the issue of sovereign debt, and transparency and fighting corruption, said the Deputy Foreign Minister in a press conference.

Also are included resolutions on nuclear disarmament, the drug problem on a global scale, fighting terrorism, climate change, and the position of Latin American and the Caribbean on the sovereign rights of Argentina over the Malvinas.

These issues will also be center of attention at the meeting of national coordinators of the CELAC, on January 24 and 25; and the foreign ministers meeting, to be held on January 26.

Moreno also said that the proclamation adopted on January 29, 2014 in Havana, Cuba, which declares Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, will be an action guide through all the work of the Summit.

During the meeting next week, Ecuador will pass the pro tempore presidency to Dominican Republic, he said.

Another important moment of the event will be addressing the characteristics of the CELAC-China forum, created in Havana in 2014, which started a year ago in Beijing.

Also, will be analyzed in which way can be jump-started the CELAC-Russia and CELAC-India mechanisms, aimed to raise the bilateral dialogue and promote cooperation, Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister said.
