The UN special envoy to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, starts today a visit to the North African region in order to prepare the forthcoming visit of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the Algerian radio reported. Ross will visit today the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, where he will remain several days. Then he will go to the capital and after, will head to Rabat (Morocco) and Nouakchott (Mauritania).

The UN especial envoy's visit takes place days before the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
In the 21st century, SADR is occupied by Morocco. Most of the world considers this occupation as illegal.
Ban Ki-moon's forthcoming visit to Western Sahara and neighboring countries will open a new chapter in the issue of decolonization of the territory.
The UN Security Council said that Ban Ki-moon will visit the region in order to prepare a report to to be presented to the organization in April 2016.
