Australian journalist and Wikileaks founder Julian Assange today asked the Swedish justice to overturn an arrest warrant against him, gollowing the ruling of a United Nations panel which considered his situation an arbitrary detention.

"We consider that there have arisen a number of new circumstances which mean there is reason to review the earlier decision," said one of Assange's lawyers on Monday.

According to a UN Working Team on Arbitrary Detentions, Assange have been over five years under arbitrary detention by Sweden and the United Kingdom,as a result of the illegal actions of those governments, and due to that the defendant must receive a compensation.

Assange has remained confined at the Ecuadorian embassy in London for more than 3 years, and would be immediately arrested and deported to Stockholm if he leaves that embassy.

The Wikileaks founder is accused by Sweden of alleged sex crimes, but he claims it is a ploy that would eventually lead to his extradition to the United States, where a criminal investigation into the disclose of US secret files by WikiLeaks is still open.

Ecuador has granted Assange asylum and he says his rights have been infringed because he is unable to travel to the South American country.
