According to Gutierrez, studies show that minerals and viruses come to the region along with dust, but added that health in Veracruz has not been affected by the phenomenon.
"What we have confirmed, is that Saharan dust moves throughout the Atlantic and is an inhibitor of cyclones or tropical storms," Gutierrez said.
