"We started studying the tuna in 1965 and we are currently managing diverse ecosystems in the northern Gulf", the specialist noted.

Since the institution joined the Administration of Oceans and Atmosphere in the 1970s, it has worked under the aegis of Mammals Protection Act 1972, and overfishing approved four years later.

One of its main efforts now is to promote the Caribbean Large Marine Ecosystem Project, which catalyzes the implementation of a program of joint actions in the care of the regional marine biodiversity. 'Also aim to strengthen the legal framework for eco-conservation", Ponwith stated.

Another important profile of the Centre is making large-scale modeling approaches to specific environmental situations propose them to the decision makers.
