The Central American and Caribbean Chemistry Olympiad event, which will be carried out from July 17th through 23rd at the University of Havana and the Mártires de Girón Polytechnic Institute, represents a high recognition for Cuba as well as showing the massive movement of those schools and their events of that kind.

The Cuban delegation to these contests is made up of students from the Martires de Girón Polytechnic Exact Sciences Vocational High schools although it includes high school graduates from urban and rural educational centers. The best students of that subject will have the chance to be part of the national selection process and all of them with similar opportunities.
Cuba was the host of a similar meeting given it is the first time it was carried out an International Physics Olympiad event out of Europe and it was held in Havana in 1991.
Some related sources state that the international knowledge Olympiad events began in nations from the former European socialist bloc in the 1960 decade of the twentieth century, as a way of developing the talent through different branches of the sciences. Cuba was the first nation in Latin America which participated in those competitions through the Mathematic one in 1971.
That information was given by José Lázaro Hernandez who is the national methodologist of the High school educational level of the local Ministry of Education. He is responsible for the national and international contests through the national and related selection of candidates and the national training centers.
José Lázaro Hernandez added that the local High school educational level participated in ten Olympiads events and two Centro American ones in subjects such as Mathematics and Chemistry and four international ones of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, respectively.
“The High school students are studying in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics for the national contest of which its main purpose is strengthening the professional guidance and the vocational training about careers on sciences.
