The island delegation participate in the Summit of the Americas for the first time after the clamor of Latin American and Caribbean governments.
The representative of Cuba delegation to the Seventh Summit of the Americas and the Peoples' Summit to be held between the 9 and 11 April, Tuesday held a press conference; where they issued a Declaration of Principles on their participation in these events.
According to Granma newspaper report more than one hundred spokespersons departed from the island to participate and bring their ideas to both events as well as attend a series of forums arranged for this purpose. It is expected that the conference starts at 10: 00 a.m. local time and provide more details about Cuban participation in the summits, which bring together the heads of State of the hemisphere and civil society organizations to discuss common conflicts in the region.
Cuba will participate for the first time at the Summit of the Americas thanks to the claim of most Latin America and the Caribbean governments; after years of exclusion imposed by the foreign policy of the United States. According to the Secretary General of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), Ernesto Samper, the meeting should serve to redefine US relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries.
In this sense the participating Governments urge President of the United States, Barack Obama, to repeal the executive order last March 9 that declared Venezuela as a national security threat; and to lift the blockade on Cuba weighing over 50 years.
