camilo cheUndying heroes in history and in our memories, winners of the inexorable passing of time; Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán and Ernesto Guevara de la Serna continue being giants due to the greatness that emerges from their legacy.

Courageous, tireless combatants who fought for justice, humble men with a very humane touch, Camilo and Che are universal paradigms that embody the best qualities of a human being.

By chance or by destiny, owing to their capacities as guerrilla leaders the broad-smiled Cuban (Camilo) and the young Argentinean doctor (Ernesto) became brothers in the struggle to free the westernmost island country of the Caribbean from tyranny.

While Che grew up as a fervent anti-imperialist, statesman and internationalist combatant, Camilo -nicknamed by the people the Lord of the Vanguard - became a wonderful soldier, popular leader, a man of great knowledge of what imperialism meant.

Both were leaders committed to their people’s cause; Che always supported the voluntary work and one could see him working in the sugarcane plantations under a scorching sun or in a construction site. For his part, Camilo was faithful to Fidel and the Revolution with his ever-present smile, sincere sight and cowboy hat.

In spite of their characteristics, both men left an indelible imprint on the fledgling society that the Cuban people had just started to build up in defiance of the hatred of the successive U.S. administrations.

With the passing of years, these two men of different nationalities, ages and characters became symbols of friendship, which gains momentum today when defending the rights of the oppressed or the Revolutionary values is all about.

On a day like today their ideals and examples are a battle cry for the peoples around the world that, like ours, do not surrender in the face of imperialistic threats.

The people of Cuba eternally pay deserved tribute to these two heroes, but particularly in these days when the Camilo-Che Season (October 8-28 ) is nationwide observed.
