One example is the group work carried out by the Community Mental Health Center in the eastern province, with the active participation of those suffering from this type representing about 8 percent of the population in the territory.
The achievement is the result of the work of psychologists, psychiatrists and other specialists of this institution, the first created in this region to assist patients.
The care of schizophrenic patients, the groups created for the rehabilitation of the addicted as well as bibliotherapy and workshops are some of the 13 therapeutic programs of this community center aimed at the transformation of social behavior and improvement as well as raising the welfare of those vulnerable groups.
Consultation for children with concentration disorders and other problems in addition to parents school are other services that Guantanamo residents can access in this institution, after diagnosis from any health area.
Professionals at the Community Mental Health Center in Guantanamo also perform interactive activities with the elderly, a segment more likely to suffer degenerative mental conditions such as Alzheimer´s, which it is estimated will suffer over 42 million people worldwide by the year 2020.
The mental health program in Guantanamo also includes outpatient care and by admission to the Luis Ramirez Lopez Psychiatric Hospital, whose doctors and other workers contribute to the improvement and many patients´ return to life.
