German researchers are working on a new universal vaccine against cancer, based on the same mechanisms that stimulate the immune response by the organism to viruses, according to reports today. It is a new vaccine of RNA nanoparticles, the response of which has already had positive results in experimental pharmacology in tumor models on mice and three human patients with advanced melanoma.

It is a new vaccine of RNA nanoparticles, the response of which has already had positive results in experimental pharmacology in tumor models on mice and three human patients with advanced melanoma.

This find will possibly represent a step towards a universal vaccine for immunotherapy against cancer, said the authors in the most recent issue of the magazine Nature.

This is an important step towards really personalized immunotherapies against cancer, applicable to all kinds of cancer, said Ugur Sahin, head of the research.

Several German institutions are collaborating with the research, including BionTech AG, a biotechnology firm devoted to develop individualized immunotherapies against cancer, Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and Heidelberg University Hospital.
