Guantanamo for Higher Quality of Life for Elderly

In view of increasing life expectancy and the aging of the population, in Guantanamo, the Cuban easternmost province, specialized care is maintained for the elderly, who benefited from the institutional, home and community assistance and community level.

 In this territory, gerontology follow-up consultations are provided at policlinics to patients with coronary diseases, malignant tumors and cerebrovascular diseases, the primary causes of death in the territory.
There are also multidisciplinary teams providing care to the elderly diabetic, asthmatic, hypertensive and others affected by chronic diseases, with the aim of raising their quality of life and reduce deaths in this population segment.
Another way to reduce mortality in the elderly is the guarantee of influenza vaccination, the campaign in favor of immunizing people over 65 years.
In Guantanamo, old people also benefit from assistance in the home and in the clubs of grandparents, as well as at home.
