With improvements in the performance of the protocols established for the treatment and care of pregnant women, Guantanamo professionals achieve a child mortality rate of 5 per 1000 live births so far this year, reported Dr. Humberto Velázquez Romero, in charge of Mother and Child Program (PAMI) in the province.
This result is due to the strict monitoring aimed at all pregnant women, emphasizing those admitted for pregnancy-related diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus.
The survival of serious mothers due to complications associated with acute renal or respiratory infections is also obtained from improvements in the conditions of the delivery rooms in the General Teaching Hospital Dr. Aghostino Neto, of the capital city and Octavio de la Concepción, of Baracoa![]()
Dr. Humberto Velázquez Romero, top manager of the PAMI in Guantanamo recognized that the quality of life of the puerperal women also affects the reduction of caesarean section, due to complications and the increase of births through physiological delivery, as these facilitate the discharge of puerperal women in a maximum of 72 hours.
