Giant African Snail The implementation of measures to prevent and eliminate the Giant African Snail before its possible appearance in Guantanamo, occupies health personnel for the treatment of vectors, who recently received training in order to take on the appropriate actions and strategies.

Among the main tasks are the surveillance and the constant promotion of the risks that this species represents for human health, flora and fauna, said Eduardo Sánchez Lara, Director of the Provincial Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Likewise, he added that these workers, together with several representatives of other organizations, are responsible for explaining to the residents the need to avoid direct contact with that mollusk because it transmits meningoencephalitis, a disease with several symptoms, including fever, confusion, vomiting, seizures and that without timely treatment can lead to death.

If there is any suspicion of the presence of the Giant African Snail, the population should inform the nearest health area to carry out the monitoring that confirm whether it is an invasive species, which to date is located in all the provinces of the country, except in Guantanamo and Cienfuegos.
