Guantánamo – Eider Milhet Labori, vice president of the Municipal Defense Council, arrived at the Vialla dam, the only one of its kind in Baracoa, to verify the protection measures for those who live downriver from this reservoir.
During his tour, he spoke with community members and workers in that demarcation and also was informed about the progress of the assessment related to the damage caused by Hurricane Oscar to homes.
Hours later, Yoel Pérez García, President of the Provincial Defense Council, also arrived at the site, along with other leaders and Hydrology specialists, who observed the current state of the dam, proposed reinforcing the slope and directed the immediate evacuation of residents in surrounding areas.
In the Baracoa Municipality, interprovincial bus services remain cancelled.
