Guantanamo.- The president of the National Defense Council, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, returned to the eastern province of Guantánamo this Thursday to check the progress in the recovery of several municipalities in that territory, affected by the passage of Hurricane Oscar.

In Maisí —where the head of state arrived a few hours after the cyclone hit three weeks ago— he exchanged with residents of the town of Quemado de Sabana about the electricity service, water, food distribution and the resume of the school year.

The President visited the processing office there, set up in order to prepare the documentation of all the people who had damage to their homes. The current situation of the housing stock is, precisely, the main problem that this municipality has, where 995 homes were damaged, 22 of them with total collapses. According to reports, 84 have already been recovered.

When we all come together and start working together, things move forward,” the president he said, who was accompanied by the Secretary of Organization in the Central Committee of the Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda, and by the first secretary of that political organization in Guantánamo, Yoel Pérez García.

In the meeting with local authorities and in his exchange with the people, several times during the tour, the president recognized the joint work, with the participation of the people, in the recovery tasks. Likewise, he highlighted the value of solidarity in  this time, when Cuba has been affected by several natural phenomena.

The priority, Díaz-Canel said, is in the repair of the houses that were damaged, more than 12,000 in the province; and in the water supply, an important issue that precedes the passage of the cyclone.
