The space “La Casa hacia afuera”, sponsored by El patio de Adela sociocultural project and Caverchelo.comb, along with  “Chito Latamblet Veranes” Changüí House, carried out a cultural activity remembering  the 111th anniversarybirthday of Arturo Latamblet Veranes, legendary musician of this traditional Guantanamo genre.

Adela Gómez Blanco, manager of the community project in Loma del Chivo community, said that the activity included the participation of changui clubs, the groups Caverchelo.comb and Eusebia y su changüí, in addition to the community´s children and cultural promoters.

Starting at five in the afternoon on the portal of Casa del Changüí, images of the life and work of Arturo Latamblet Veranes were screened. He was born on October 25, 1912, in the Guantanamo community of Loma del Chivo.

In his youth, Arturo dedicated himself to several jobs at the Cecilia sugar mill during the sugar harvest. He learned playing the bongo from his grandfather Demetrio, an instrument with which he became known on international music stages and made great contributions to Cuban musical culture, recognized as the Lion of Bongo.

Like his brother Reyes (Chito) Latamblet, El Tresero Mayor, Arturo’s work remains a relic of Cuba´s intangible heritage, who was the first director of the Changüí Guantanamo group, played in the group Rarezas del 43 under the direction of Luis Martínez Griñán and in the Arizona group in 1956.
