Guantanamo.- The collective exhibition “Diseños compartidos” (Shared Design) is displayed in the exhibition hall of the Guiñol Theater, in the eastern city of Guantánamo, which contains fashion illustration made since the end of the 20th century, by forty Cuban creators selected for their understanding of the vibrant vocation of dressmaking.

Vilmeidy Bombale Laborde, a specialist in the visual arts and curator of the collection, emphasizes the traditional or contemporary way of illustrating fashion, originated by artisans, tailors, seamstresses, stylists among others who with their work enrich design as an artistic expression.

Bombalé Laborde considers seamstresses as designers due to their work in creating exclusive outfits, and one of the most representative is the Guantanamo-born Carmen Fiol de la Cruz, a figure in the fashion world in Cuba, who created her own school with her Anatomic Method.

“Diseños compartidos” invites us to take an inter-generational collection from the end of the 20th century to the present, in which public can appreciate the entire creative process in a fashion workshop, and brings the public closer to the illustration of the design, the fabrics, the patterns, the finished projects, the photography, the catalogues, the sewing machine, elements necessary for the final work of garment.
