Guantánamo.- Different generations of Guantanamo residents paid heartfelt tribute to our National Hero José Martí at the park that bears his name in this provincial capital city, on the 130th anniversary of his death in combat.
Floral wreaths, recital of verses, slogans, and portraits of the greatest Spanish-American political thinker of the nineteenth century enliven the tribute, led by Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Party in the territory.
In her speech, Idaliena Díaz Casamayor, President of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Guantánamo, recalled the 130th anniversary of José Martí’s death in combat on May 19, 1895. She also highlighted the anti-imperialist legacy of this most universal of Cubans and the mastermind behind the Assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, an action that was established as the Day of National Rebellion in 1953.
