Meteoro 2023

Guantanamo.- Strengthening the province’s preparedness and response capacities to face technological and sanitary disaster hazards is the objective of the Meteoro 2025 exercise, to be held on May 24th and 25th.

The first day will involve leadership and command bodies, and will aim to share experiences and train management structures on knowledge and preparedness for threats caused by disasters.

Additionally, activities will be carried out to strengthen the preparation of decision-makers in disaster response and to strengthen the cohesion of the Defense Councils and management bodies, in addition to training the personnel of specialized institutions responsible for ensuring surveillance and early warning systems.

On Sunday, May 25, workers, students, and the general public will carry out practical actions to prepare the forces they organize at the territorial level. Different categories of personnel and the population will be trained for disaster response and recovery, as well as work aimed at reducing risks and vulnerabilities in communities, economic, and social entities.

That same day, the Meteorological Exercise will close with a recognition to the Guantánamo Municipal Defense Council’s response to the impact of a moderate-intensity earthquake and assistance to victims of the disaster in the Rubén López Sabariego Defense Zone.

Prior to the Exercise, Disaster Risk Reduction Week will be held in the province from May 19 to 23. The objective is to develop practical actions to advance efforts to minimize disaster risk, mitigate the impact of the various hazards identified, and reduce vulnerabilities. These include practical classes, drills, workshops, and seminars.

The electrical and communications brigades will have special participation in tree pruning, the municipal brigades in sanitation and environmental hygiene tasks, and the public health brigade in vector control actions.
