Guantánamo – The Hougan Francisco Díaz Díaz, president of the Haitians and Descendants Association in the easternmost territory of Cuba, received the 2023 Provincial Community Culture Award, for his praiseworthy work carried out throughout the communities in defense of the preservation and safeguarding of the traditions inherited from this Caribbean country, which are also part of the identity of the Guantanamo people.
During a ceremony that took place at the Guaso Theater in the Guantánamo City, Francisco Díaz Díaz received this significant award from Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Guantánamo, which is awarded annually by the Provincial Center of Houses of Culture, and exalts the value of their community work in the period corresponding to the year 2023.
The Severino y su Son group and the Eloína Ramírez Family, from the Yateras municipality; the Sociocultural Projects: “Create With You” and “Historical Route Duaba”,from Baracoa as well as Caimanera Pedro Batista Téllez, together with the art instructor Guidaisi Sariol Ramírez and the actor Uri Rodríguez Urgellés, from Guantánamo, and the vocal leader Arismeldo Pérez Matos of the Nengón de Imías group were on this occasion the nominees for the Provincial Prize for Community Culture 2023.
The provincial award was given in the context of the commemorative gala held in Guantánamo for the 98th anniversary of the birth of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, a tribute from the culture led by the amateur art movement of the territory, in which the soloist Dayamí Lores, the singer-songwriter Claudio Casal, the tenor Ángel Herrera, and the declaimer Gustavo Sánchez also participated.
The dance groups Génesis and Raíces, as well as the rueda de casino Todo mixto also performed in the day of tribute to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, during this commemorative gala, a moment in which his legacy was evoked as the promoter of diverse cultural programs in the country.
