The current enrollment of the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo is increased to more than six thousand students, an institution that started the school year 2018-2019 with the commitment to improve the quality in the training of health professionals in the territory, as well as of the 70 foreign students from 41 countries who study there.
Dr. Benavides Enrique Pupo Duran, Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences of Guantanamo, explained to Venceremos that 915 new students are enrolled in the four university degrees of the institution -Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Health Technology- and 232 qualified technicians and skilled workers.
He explained that the number of students grows over previous years by the inclusion of four short-term specialties, who must graduate in three years as high-school and college level technicians in Hygiene and Epidemiology, Pharmaceutical Services and Occupational Therapy.
It also includes the career of Thanatology, science related to work with the terminally ill patients, autopsy and necropsy of the deceased, in which there are already eight students enrolled, who obtained the degree in twelfth grade.
Pupo Duran, highlighted among the prioritized objectives of current school year, the National Accreditation process of the University that began in November 2018 and has as strength to have careers in Medicine and Stomatology accredited and a faculty 1722 professors, of them 540 Master in Sciences and 20 Doctore in Science.
On behalf of the University Student Federation (FEU), Gabriel Iribar Tarruella, president of the organization in the center, ratified the duty of university students to star in the process of popular consultation of the constitutional project of the Republic of Cuba, and fight academic fraud from the classes.
