Graduates of Special Education in Guantanamo Incorporate into Working Life

Guantanamo Special EducationThe José Antonio Echeverría Special School, in this city, in the last five academic years, incorporates more than 50 young people into working life in different companies in the easternmost territory of Cuba.

 

Bakeries, sweetshops, food complex, hairdressers and other units of production and services of Guantanamo, benefited with these new graduates, stand out among the centers with high demand of workforce.

Reyna Esther Rivera, principal of cycle, said that the main mission of the teaching staff is to prepare children with mental disorders or other disabilities for their inclusion not only in the workplace, but also to the useful life inside and outside the home.

The teacher also noted that, under 12 years of age, students receive knowledge of gardening, shoe repair and shoemaking in the workshops, skills that they will later perform at the age of work.

In the current school year, 124 adolescents of secondary school are linked to productive centers and services among these Vanguardia Proletaria workshops, biscuit factory, orchards and organoponics, as well as other entities that allow them to prepare in an integral manner.

The 124 pioneers of the José Antonio Echeverría School complete their training in the workshop called Casa de los Economistas, in which they learn how to make household items such as napkins, tablecloths, cup holders and also prepare fast foods.

Likewise, they are prepared, according to the cycle every 15 weeks in the workshops of Crafts and Shoemaking, in which they learn to make flowers, dolls, handbags, as well as acquire some skills in shoe repair.
