University Students Join the Tarea Vida Program in Guantanamo Communities

Tarea Vida program in GuantanamoAchieving greater understanding of environmental problems and acting in favor of the environment to foster Tarea Vida Program are priorities in this school year for professors and students of the Biology career of the Faculty of Education at the University of Guantanamo.

Yaritza Martínez Adams, a professor at that institution, told CMKS that young people from the first to the third year of the career exchange these days with the residents of the Tortuguilla community to exchange experiences related to environmental care.

As part of the activities organized in this semi-desert town of the Guantanamo Province, university students and professors will also carry out courses, workshops, as well as the sanitation of the beach, among other initiatives in order to raise awareness among the population, the teacher said.

The Tarea Vida Program entails, in turn, a systematic work with the inhabitants and pioneers to raise the perception of the risks in that area and other communities of the San Antonio del Sur Municipality, before the salinization of the soils and the penetration of the sea in the last two weather events.

The State Plan for the Confrontation of Climate Change, Life Task, was approved by the Council of Ministers in April 2017 and has as priorities the preservation of people's lives, food sovereignty and tourism development.
