The coffee harvest in the Guantánamo Province is at 88 percent completion, according to the most recent report released by Agriculture in the territory, which establishes the estimated total of the coffee harvest at 819,531 cans.

The collection of 618,093 cans of the Arabica variety is almost liquidated, 98 percent fulfilled, with the most significant contributions – as usual – in the mountain ranges of Maisí and Yateras (the latter at 105 percent). Now the greatest efforts for grain collection and processing must be concentrated on Robusta grain.

Current main scenario to sweep with this variety are the areas of Yateras, Manuel Tames , El Salvador and Niceto Pérez ; The last three failed, like those of Imías , in the total of the process of extracting seeds to date, according to information from the agricultural sector. This cooffe trees must add more than 201,430 cans collected for the forseen plan of the harvest.

Extracting the seed generally satisfies 102 percent of the planned volume to be processed to date.

For Guantanamo coffee growers, it is a challenge to achieve the best results foreseen for the period.Although the volumes are still lower than the potential, and the cultivation of coffee plantations has faced climatic effects and those derived from the global economic crisis and the US blockade , producing coffee precisely means a beneficial contribution to the Cuban economy, both for exports and for import substitution. And Robusta decides to meet the plan foreseen.
