Guantanamo.- From May 22 to 26, Guantánamo hosts the 9th edition of the Meeting of Young Choreographers, an event sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in the territory, and which began with the conference titled: Babul, the art of safeguarding traditions, by art historian Magela Zamora Simons, recent winner of the Memoria Nuestra of the May 2024 Romerías Artistic Youth Festival.
As part of the program of activities of this meeting, the headquarters of the Babul Folkloric Ballet, the group to which this edition of the event is dedicated for its 30 years of foundation, was also the space for the class-workshop taught by the prima ballerina and regisseur Marveyis Martínez to young creators of this group and members of the Seres dance group, from Las Tunas, invited to the meeting.
On the other hand, in the Aretusa Room of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC), the panel “Babuleando, the theatricalization of folklore”, took place with the participation of the teacher Ernesto Llewellyn, the theatrologist and Director of the Documentation Center for the Performing Arts María Lastayo, Marilin Garbey and the leader of the Teatro de la Totalidad group Geordanis Carcassés, a space moderated by the researcher Alba Babastro Noris.
Likewise, as part of the 9th Meeting of Young Choreographers, the Rubén López Sabariego Culture House in the Guantánamo City was the venue for the presentation of the K’merino and Génesis projects, as well as the dance companies Danza Fragmentada and Ballet Folklórico Babul.
