Guantánamo – The Culture sector in the municipality of Baracoa reports damage on the roofs of the Artex Cultural Center, La Terraza, as well as on the Encanto Cinema, its glass walls, and on the headquarters of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), caused by the impact of the strong winds associated with Hurricane Oscar, currently degenerated into a tropical depression.
Yoelvys Labañino López, provincial director of the sector, reported that the meteorological event hit the First Cuban Village as a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir Simpson scale, which caused multiple damages.
Likewise, the head of the culture sector in Guantánamo said that they have to evaluate the damage caused to buildings in the municipalities of Maisí, Imías and San Antonio del Sur, with which the provincial command post prioritizes the establishment of communication with these territories.
He also announced that no damage has been reported so far in the institutions of the Culture sector in the Guantánamo Municipality, as well as that a total of 57 boarding students are safe at the Alfredo Velázquez Carcassés Professional Dance School, the Antonia Luisa Cabal Salis Music School, and the New Training of Art Instructors, and these three institutions of artistic education have the essential conditions for the stay and care of the students.
