Guantanamo.- Guarantying the safe and expeditious movement of containers of donated food from Santiago de Cuba to Guantánamo, which are part of the standard family food basket for the month of January, focused the analysis this Sunday of the vitality meeting.
Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and Alis Azahares Torreblanca, governor of Guantánamo, chaired the meeting, in which the main events and irregularities that affect the economic and social development of the province are analyzed daily, with the participation of directors of entities and organizations.
According to journalist Yamilka Alvarez Ramos, the director of the Wholesale Food Enterprise in the territory, William Boet Cisneros, specified that, at the request of the country, around 58 containers of rice, sugar, pasta products and cans of sardines will be received in Guantanamo as donations.
In the case of rice, there are some 548 tons, which are enough to deliver two pounds per capita to one hundred percent of the population, a distribution that would be part of the standard family basket for January, he indicated.
He specified that for the 23 priority communities, which extend from Hatibonico, along the entire southern coast of the province to Los Naranjos, the settlement located before the entrance to San Antonio del Sur, two kilograms (kg) of rice per capita will be delivered, which would be 4.3 pounds per consumer.
In the case of sugar, this will be distributed at a one kg per core, not by number of consumers, while pasta will be delivered by each member of the family; from one to two consumers, one kg; from three to four consumers, two kg; from five to seven, four kg and so on, up to those with more than 10 members, who would correspond to five kg.
Regarding sardines, he explained that it will be by age groups, for those over 65 years old and children underweight and tall, one can will be distributed and two for pregnant women.
Boet Cisneros added that there are also some jams available, which must be transported from Caibarién, in Villa Clara, of which one kg would be delivered per child, from zero to 13 years old in the case of Guantánamo, Caimanera, Salvador and San Antonio del Sur and for the rest of the municipalities, one kg for infants under zero to six years old.
He said that at this moment a ship from Cienfuegos is in the port of Santiago de Cuba, with approximately two months of a standard family basket of sugar for January and February, at a rate of two pounds per month, which will be unloaded between today and tomorrow, depending on the availability of fuel.
The meeting also reported the arrival of 25 tons of flour that are already being distributed, for the production of standard bread for the population.
