Guantanamo.- Given the need to improve the mobility of people to communities surrounding the city of Guantanamo, from today Tuesday, the service of a new railbus for the transportation of passengers began, which will cover in the first stage a route from the Santa María neighborhood to Moncada Street and the 1st North Street.
This innovation, unique of its kind in the country, is part of a national project that included the adaptation of spare parts of a Diana brand bus to railway transportation, guaranteeing greater durability of the means, said Pedro Durruty Martínez, delegate of the Business Union of Railways in the province.
He added that for greater service safety, maintenance work was also carried out on the railway tracks and currently work is being done on installing a turnaround, which will allow the route to be extended to reach the community of Nicaragua, located at the end of the southern area of the City of Guantanamo.
Given the lack of spare parts and other resources necessary to achieve greater passenger mobility, the efforts of the political authorities, the transport sector and railway innovators with vast experience are recognized, who achieved the adaptation of the railcar with capacity for about forty passengers from San Justo, Santa Maria, Reparto Obrero, among other outskirt communities of the City of Guantanamo.
